Media Dialogue: Climate Change Challenges for Pakistan

In the backdrop of the Conference of Parties (COP26) held at Glasgow, UK from October 31 till November 12, 2021, The Knowledge Forum collaborated with the Karachi Press Club to organize a Media Dialogue on & Climate Change Challenges for Pakistan; at the club’s premises on November 5, 2021. 

Environment journalists and activists attended the dialogue, which was held to discuss Pakistan’s climate change challenges in perspective of the COP26. Participants included Environment Experts Nasir Panhwar, Jamil Junejo, and Karachi Press Club Joint Secretary Saqib Saghir. The discussion was led by Shujauddin Qureshi of The Knowledge Forum.

The speakers highlighted the status of environment protection regime in terms of legislation, policy, and development action. Effort was made to connect the global context with the local experiences highlighting linkages. A detailed picture of climate deterioration in Sindh was also discussed. 

The Karachi Press Club General Secretary emphasised prioritising climate change concerns in the media agenda. While stressing the need for enhancing media’s capacity to navigate and present an accessible reporting on climate matters, he also suggested using the tool of the Right to Information legislation to access data on the subjects of environment and climate

change from the relevant government departments.
