Representatives of The Knowledge Forum (TKF) met members of the Sindh Assembly on May 22, 2026, to present the Citizens’ Energy Security Charter 2026 and discuss growing concerns over load shedding, rising electricity costs, and unequal access to energy services across Sindh, including Karachi.
The meeting was attended by Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khurshidi, along with lawmakers Musarrat Jabeen, Mehboob, Najam Mirza, and Mahesh Kumar Haseja.
During the meeting, the TKF delegation highlighted the need for urgent policy interventions to address the province’s energy challenges. The Citizens’ Energy Security Charter 2026 outlines a range of budgetary and policy recommendations aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s energy security while ensuring affordable and reliable electricity for all citizens.
According to TKF representatives, the Charter calls for accelerated investment in renewable energy projects, modernization of the national grid, development of battery storage systems, and greater support for distributed solar energy solutions. It also emphasizes the promotion of electric mobility and measures to improve energy access for underserved communities.
Participants discussed the impact of prolonged power outages on households, businesses, and economic activity across Sindh. The meeting stressed the importance of protecting consumer rights and adopting practical measures to reduce the burden of rising electricity costs on the public.
The discussion also focused on the need for a just energy transition that balances environmental sustainability with social and economic considerations. Lawmakers and civil society representatives agreed that expanding clean energy options and improving energy governance are essential for building a resilient and inclusive energy future.
TKF representatives thanked the legislators for their time and constructive engagement, expressing hope for continued collaboration to advance policies that promote a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable energy sector in Pakistan.
